Nurse's Knowledge toward Oxygen Therapy, at Public Hospitals in Amran City-Yemen
Abstract
Background: Oxygen therapy is the very important procedure can put the patient at risk for infection and complication, this complication dramatically increases the morbidity-mortality rate, an increase in healthcare costs and has been leading to higher the patient’s length of stay in hospitalization. Aim of the study: to determine the knowledge of nurses on oxygen therapy at public hospitals in Amran City. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses at public hospitals in Amran City-Yemen. A stratified random sampling was applied to select the sample from 2 major public hospitals. Data were collected using questionnaire, 92 nurses were tested for knowledge. This study was conducted from January to March 2022. Results: More than half (57%) of nurses were female, (47 %) had working experience from 1-2 years. Majority (76 %) of nurses had a diploma degree, (55%) had no previous courses training on oxygen therapy, and (54%) had no there found written guideline for oxygen therapy in your department. Most (54%) of nurses had poor knowledge on oxygen therapy, while only (3%) had good knowledge. A significant association difference between knowledge and is there a specialized oxygen therapy team in the hospital(P-value>0.05). Conclusion: More than half of nurses had poor knowledge of oxygen therapy as well as the overall knowledge was found to be inadequate. establishing a written updated protocol of oxygen therapy to ensure enough knowledge, unified, and safe nursing, and respiratory care practice.
